Hi. I have a second full knee replacement coming up 5/4.
The first didn't go so well, and I didn't have much support.
It didn't take long for what support I had to get frustrated and end up being more hostile than supportive.

So I need some chat while going through this and able to talk to others who really understand.

There are already some very frustrating things, like the doctor's notes aren't exactly correct and missing context which make me sound horrid (I have PTSD too partially medically induced; last time one day was triggered, pain management was NOT working with my biology, so the doctor too my frustration vent/request last time as a serious request).

So it's going to be hell again, I can already see that. My roommate already doesn't want to be involved unless absolutely necessary.

All I have is my dog and even that is stressful because he's a service dog in training, used to do really well for his breed, my previous neighbor had their dog go after him twice and they themselves harassed; so now he's reactive and I'm having to try and train that. In other words, I don't have him as much as I'd like either, and have to kennel him for the first 2-3 weeks because of that.

So it's going to be very dark for me. It would be nice to have some chat that can help me get through it.

Thanks.

Hi @justmeee,

I combined your discussion with an existing discussion titled:

"Second TKR"
- https://connect.mayoclinic.org/discussion/second-tkr/

@mandyc2025 shared their positive experience with their second TKR and may wish to share any updates they have experienced since their original post. @cindymattern, @captboat, @marged and @gigi86 all have shared their experiences on Mayo Clinic Connect with multiple knee replacements and may be able to share what their second one was like and how they recovered.

@justmeee I have a question do you have Arthrofibrosis? That is when you develop an over abundance of of scar tissue. I ask because I had had tkr 3 1/2 years ago within a year. I was having a revision with smaller parts which helped for a bit. But here I am 2 1/2 half years later back at 70 degrees flexion , extension off by about 15 degrees. I have done everything the dr said and more . I paid for myofacial release before and after surgery for a long time , tried acupuncture,. I honestly had a great team around me. But if if you have Arthrofibrosis nothing you do will matter . I would chat with your dr if this is possibility if it is may want to change strategy. I have not given up I have tell you just on surgery . Because surgery is not the answer for people like me that develops too much scar tissue .My dr put me in touch with a pt that specializes in Arthrofibrosis just started working with him. For me I had car accident last October that laid me up for bit was not able to exercise this is where I ended up . But I do believe I will get back to 90 and almost full extension. Look up more information about Arthrofibrosis maybe does not even apply to you ! Good luck in whatever you do just keep moving forward.

@justmeee
I've +had both knees done they weren't too bad, the hips were much worse. On You Tube there are several sites for meditation, some can run all night, some to get negative thoughts out of your mind. You can lay down put on the offering of your choice, and let it work for you. I know how chronic pain and depression go hand in hand. I have had 7 joint replacements
( different joints) not the same ones. Each surgery went differently, some pretty good others not so much. Attitude can make a big difference and I know you've been in pain for a long time, it wears you down. Until you have the surgery you cant do much about the pain, but water exercise can put you in a good place, it is also good for depression. You can ask you doctor about it. I have been on this journey for over 20 years. I try anything that will help, sometimes it works, sometime it doesn't. I wish you good luck and minimal pain.

9 and have been dealing with this joint problem for over 20 years

@justmeee I hope your second time goes better than your first. Here is a big hug for you.
