Need second round anabolic- Tymlos or Forteo?
Took Forteo for 24 months seven years ago with decent gains. (6% after two years), then Reclast. Was fine on no meds but then had traumatic spinal fracture a few months ago and DEXA numbers declined again (to -3.6 spine). Endo wants me to take anabolic. Evenity scares me. So it’s between another round Forteo or Tymlos. Had no side effects Forteo and read that it helps with fracture pain (which I still have off and on). Debating which one. Would appreciate any thoughts or experiences. Thanks.

hipsalve, I'm voting for Forteo not just because I'm so happy with it, but because you know you won't have side effects and because Forteo is thought to be more effective in the spine. If your hips were the low point, I'd say Tymlos. It is lovely to have to choose between two such excellent medications.

3 ReactionsI have been on Tymlos for just over 4 months. There are no scans to monitor bone density changes yet, but the daily injections are going fine. The only side effect I notice, other than a little nausea in the first week or so, is some constipation. That is manageable through diet and stool softeners. Anyone else experience this with Tymlos?

2 ReactionsI spent six months total on Tymlos followed by generic Forteo after a thoracic vertebral fracture. I didn’t notice any change in my pain from the fracture. What did impact my pain was 12 sessions of physiotherapy to train me how to strengthen my back muscles and continuing with those exercises for the two years following my fracture.
I am on Evenity now with two shots left. I prefer Evenity as it’s once a month for a year instead of daily injections for two years. All medications have side effects and mine are tolerable on Evenity (joint pain and weight gain). I had terrible constipation on Forteo so I had to quit. Tymlos was OK - some joint pain, mild constipation, and occasional electrical zapping pain in my extremities. I gained weight on all three.
Everyone is different and most people have no issues with these medications. I can only share my personal story and in the end, it really doesn’t make a difference for you as your experience may be different than mine.

3 ReactionsMy husband did very well with a 2 year course of Forteo and one infusion of Prolia after he finished the Forteo.
I developed a kidney stone from Tymlos and stopped taking it.
That doesn't help much, but it is our experience - wish you the best!

1 Reaction@lylii I am on Tymlos. Why do you think it caused your kidney stone?

1 ReactionHello,
I had been warned that kidney stones were a potential side effect of Tymlos, so I told the director of the bone density clinic that I had a family history of kidney stones. She minimized the risk, so I started the Tymlos. I had never had any type of problem with kidney stones before starting the Tymlos and have had no further problems since stopping the Tymlos and having the stone removed from my kidney. I think I had been on the Tymlos about a year before developing the stone. I'm still being followed by urology, and have an ultrasound annually - no more stones have been detected. It could have been a coincidence, but my "gut feeling" is that it was caused by the Tymlos.... It could be that my family history made me more susceptible to developing a stone while on Tymlos.
