Does taking Fosamax with no side effects portend same with Reclast?
I'm going to use Reclast after Forteo. Prior to Forteo I was on Fosamax (technically, the generic alendronate) for 3.5 years with no side effects. Can I safely assume the same would be true for Reclast? Would love to hear from someone who has been on both.

Not on these meds, but Reclast is usually a once a year med, a lot at once… Reclast seems to have a long half-life… things to consider when deciding with your doc…… Fosamax is oral and daily, can upset some peoples’ digestion, generally better tolerated than Reclast, based on what I read. Good luck !

2 Reactions@nycmusic Alendronate aka Fosamax also has a long halt-life in your body. But you may have meant the more immediate effects just as you take it.
Here is an article that references the half-life: Effects of Continuing or Stopping Alendronate After 5 Years of Treatment
https://jamanetwork.com/journals/jama/fullarticle/204789
Excerpt: "The terminal half-life of alendronate is similar to that of bone mineral, approximately 10.5 years."

2 ReactionsA Reclast infusion is pretty strong. Think about it: you only take it once a year, vs. a weekly Fosamax pill. I chose Fosamax because I don't like the idea of such a strong infusion; if you have a bad reaction, there's no turning back. Just my personal preference, but I feel like the risk/reward, for me, pointed me to Fosamax.

2 Reactions@kfhoz thanks for your very good response and info.
@njx58 I posted this discussion because I am taking Reclast after I am done with Forteo (versus Prolia). My question isn't whether I should take Reclast instead of Fosamax (been there, done that). My question is since I didn't have any side effects with Fosamax, does that mean I probably won't have any with Reclast either? Did you take Fosamax as your "lock-in" drug after an anabolic? I haven't heard of people doing that. It seems to be a choice between Prolia and Reclast.

2 ReactionsI’m in the same situation. I took Fosamax for just over five years and never had any side effects. I’m coming off Evenity soon and plan to do the yearly Reclast infusion. I do expect to feel a little off for a few days after the infusion but am hoping I’ll be ok after that. I would love to hear from someone who’s done both as well. But I am keeping a positive attitude about it.
