Recently had EGD, which showed that my stomach is open at the bottom

Recently had EGD, which showed that my stomach is open at the bottom. This might explain the IBS symptoms I’ve been experiencing for about a year. I had a splenectomy in 2021. Could it be possible that the vagus nerve was cut causing the Pylori’s valve to not close? After the surgery, I had stomach motility issues and severe abdominal blood clots. I have an autoimmune disease – mixedconnective tissue disorder.

Hi, @leverenz - welcome to Mayo Clinic Connect. Sorry to hear you have been experiencing IBS symptoms, stomach motility issues and severe abdominal blood clots, along with having mixed connective tissue disease.

In your EGD, then, did the radiologic results explain that the pyloric valve did not close properly?

This is some information and an illustration from Mayo Clinic on that valve:

How did your doctor interpret the EGD results for you? What did he or she say were your next steps?
