Diagnosed Today
Hi -
I'm 59 years old and just received biopsy results today. Two areas of 3 + 3 were noted and one 3+4 with 10% pattern. Most recent PSA was 3.5 and PSAD was .06 so a bit shocked at the news.
From what I've read I'll have options but my first inclination is to opt for radiation to eliminate all three spots. I know Mayo is great and will likely visit there but where would you recommend going in addition to Mayo for a second opinion as to treatment? I'm fortunate to have the means to go and then stay if need be anywhere for treatment.

Yes, it is done in conjunction with biopsy performed before any treatment. Most members here had it done in that order and doctors made suggestions about initial treatment according to those results.
My husband had very high Decipher and cribriform and was advised to have RP as initial treatment by both surgeon and RT specialist due to all those aggressive indicators.
We here have a member that had high gleason (8) but low Decipher and for that reason was told by his team that he does not need to use ADT, etc.
Decipher directly effects decision process for initial treatment and it measures more RNA markers than GPS.

3 ReactionsSo I don't meet with my Urologist until later next week but can't stop thinking about what the future may hold for me.
I have several friends who are urologists in other markets. I spoke to them about Active Surveillance and while both agreed it was an option neither one of them seemed overly encouraging about the prospect of AS. They both seemed to be most comfortable with removal (which I would like to avoid if safe).....one of the Urologists said he would only recommend radiation for patients 70 years of age and older. That was a bit disheartening for me as I hoped that would be my go to option assuming I needed treatment with AS.
Am I going to hear a similar message at the large academic medical centers (Mayo, MSK, etc) in terms of your 59 years old in good health......just have it removed.
