My dad has now turned 90 and has been on zytiga/lupron for one year and two months but psa is now going up so we have the PSMA scan scheduled for March 6 and a consult about Pluvicto March 11. My dad has maintained his weight of 147 the whole time and has debilitating pain in his hip area which he had five radiation treatments that didn't help the pain. He started out with PSA of 5600 and got down to 90 before it went up to 270 a week ago.
This has metastasized to his bones from head, spine, ribs femur, hip etc. I'm not sure if dad will go through the Pluvicto or not. Mom is still living and they have heard they may have to stay away from each other for a bit right after the injection. Can you give me some insight or what has to happen right after the treatment. My dad is getting tired of trying but said he would at least talk to the doctor about it. Even though they are 90 it's still hard to watch them suffer. I would appreciate any information you can give me before our consultation. Good luck today, I'll say a prayer that all goes well.

We were recommended 2-3 days to keep a 3-6ft distance from individuals. But 7 days for children or pregnant women.

All 3 of my Dad’s doctors recommended Plivicto if that helps with your decision. Since my Dad got his first shot yesterday it may be awhile before we will know if he can handle the side effects. My big question is: His PSA is already very low .50. And cancer is still growing. Not much but growing. Testosterone is very low as well. So the cancer has figured out how to work around normal channels to grow.

Wish you best of luck in your journey.

Here are recommendations for what to do with the bathroom, If you have two, it’s great, but if you have one, you still need to sanitize it after the radiation has diminished.

Here is what you can do, based on standard radiation safety guidelines:

Immediate Bathroom Safety (Days 1–3)
Sit to Urinate: Your husband must sit down to urinate to prevent splashing.
Double Flush: After using the toilet, close the lid and flush twice.
Clean Surfaces: Immediately wipe the toilet seat and any surfaces he may have touched with disinfecting wipes (e.g., Clorox wipes).
Hand Hygiene: Thoroughly wash hands with soap and water after every bathroom use.
Wear Gloves: Use disposable gloves when cleaning the bathroom or if you need to handle any bodily fluids.
Manage Disposable Items: If he uses incontinence pads or wipes, place them in a separate plastic bag, seal it, and dispose of them in the main trash, or store them separately for a few days if instructed by your team.

Above OHSU recommendations

Personal Precautions
Daily Showers: He should shower daily for at least the first 7 days.
Separate Laundry: Wash his clothes, towels, and bed linens separately from yours, especially during the first 3 days.
Stay Hydrated: Encourage him to drink plenty of fluids to flush the radioactive material out of his system more quickly.
Distance: Maintain at least 3 feet of distance when possible for the first 3 days.
Sleep: Sleep in separate beds for at least 3 to 4 days.

Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center recommendations

After the 3-Day Period
Deep Clean: After the initial 3-day high-risk period, thoroughly clean the bathroom, including the toilet, sink, and floor.
Disposal: The trash containing cleaning materials, wipes, and disposable items can generally be disposed of normally after this period, but some centers recommend holding it for a week or more.

@tneal4433 Hello. My 83 year old husband had 3 Pluvicto. The side effects, other than dry mouth, were minimal. We did not let our young grand kids with us for 7 days, but as for me I stayed arms distance. I already sleep in my own room so that was not an issue. I did use my own bathroom for about 5 days. We really didn't change many things other than no hugging and kissing for 5 days. He also get vitamin b shots. Not sure it helped but had no nausea.
