Hi, Mike (@domiha)!

I continue to take one of the EBM Medical's medicinal foods that John (@johnbishop) mentioned. I started on EB-N5 well over two years ago at the suggestion of the neurologist I was seeing back then. Subsequently, he asked if I'd like to switch a new formulation, EB-M8, which, scanning the ingredients, doesn't appear to be radically different from EB-N5. So, all-in-all, I've been taking one or the other of these medicinal foods, either EB-N5 or EB-M8, for going on three years.

That begs the question: Have these EBM products helped me any? My best and honest answer: I can't be sure. What I am reasonably sure of, however, is that the dosages haven't hurt me. My chief (if not only) PN symptom is unreliable balance. My balance was unreliable before I started taking the EBM medicinal foods, say, a 6 or 7 on a scale of 1 to 10, and my balance is still unreliable, more like something between a 5 and an 8 on that same scale. The positive-thinker in me is quick to tell any who ask me about the effectiveness of the EBM products is that it quite possible that my consistent use of them has at least prevented my balance from getting dramatically worse.

Cost? $140-ish for a half-year's supply. (One capsule in the morning, one at night; no help with insurance––at least not mine).

Cheers!

@ray666 @johnbishop Thank you both for your comments and information. Ray, you said the cost for your EB-N5 was $140-ish for a half-year's supply. I take R-ALA, Benfotiamine, Acetyl L-Carnitine, Magnesium Glycinate, Vitamin D-3 and B-12. If I added up the cost of all of those, I'm sure it would be more than $280/year. The only thing I'm still skittish about is that the EBM products contain B-6. Perhaps there are different forms of B-6 and the one used by EBM would not make things worse. Obviously it hasn't made your neuropathy worse. Are the bottoms of your feet not numb, Ray? You said the chief symptom is unreliable balance. Neither you nor I have the PAIN that many people suffer, and I have balance problems, as well. But the bottoms of my feet seem to be getting more and more numb.... which creates more problems with proprioception which then leads to more balance issues.
By the way, on another note, my doctor had prescribed the Walkasins to help me with balance and gait..... RxFunction (company that manufactures the Walkasins) sent in to my insurance... and I got a note this week that my Anthem BCBS had denied the prescription. 🙁 I can appeal, and I plan to.... but I don't have much hope. When the rep let me try them on, they instantly made a remarkable difference. Oh, well..... c'est la vie! 😉 I did check on purchasing out of pocket.... $9200 for the Walkasins with only a two-year warranty. The insoles have to be replaced annually at a cost of $820. So that is not within my means. If anyone gets medical care through the V.A. and Walkasins are recommended they get them in a matter of days.
Best to you both!!! :). Mike
