What does a Compression Fracture feel like?

Posted by 255anny @255anny, May 17, 2025

9 years ago I had a very sudden sharp pain in my mid-back. It stopped me in my tracks immediately. The pain let up enough for me to continue but the area felt sore and tender for a few weeks. X-Rays later revealed nothing except 2 Schmorl nodes. Last week in the exact spot, I felt a sharp loud pop. 7 days later, the area is still tender. Luckily I had a MRI scheduled but that did not reveal anything. Actually the Dr who read the MRI, missed some disc problems and reported all was well. Not so! I am taking the MRI report and images to my Ortho back Dr. I can't see him til mid-August. But his nurse told me he might be able to review the images soon. What does a compression fracture feel like? My Osteoporosis is severe in my spine and hip. I have been on Osteo meds for 4 years. I'm afraid to move, as this spot on my spine is tender. My physical therapist saw me a few days ago and he too is concerned. It seems my entire body is falling apart!!

Oh what a great post. Im off Prolia for 2 months, sort of my fault due to traveling and feel like im dying literally. Had 5 spinal fractures in 2023, went off prolia then on evenity 1 year then back on Prolia but had terrible pains, hips, legs, so now I have Tymos in refrigerator and am scared to death but tonight I have to try it. Any feedback is appreciated. My dose says 80 I get every side effects on everything

I am also sensitive to meds of all kinds. When I started Tymlos 5 months ago the side effects were notable: bone pain kept me up nights. That disappeared after a few weeks and I decided to take only 70 mcg (7 clicks) instead of the standard 80 mcg. Working out very well. And bone marker labs show a significant benefit so far.

I guess I read too much about transitioning from prolia to tymos wasn't the best idea. I am so scared of side effects like dizziness as I am a walking spinning top. Have another day to decide or I just cave and go back to prolia.

@cfic each of these medications comes with its own side effects. I understand with Prolia it’s a lifetime commitment and that once you stop there’s a very fast rebound of bone loss. If you go on Tymlos at some point after you are finished with the treatment, you will have to find another medication to avoid bone loss. I’m hoping I’ll be able to go on Evista but I understand it is not as effective as some of the other meds.

Ty for your support and info. I feel at this point I may just resume prolia and not go onto Tymlos till I find a better md likely Endo. since I dont think my rheumatologist knows what she's doing. I mentioned that the 6 months apart was hard due to being away and with no education on the difference btw the drugs and how they work suddenly its a switching to a totally different type of med.
I know my chances are high to fracture but tymos may build some bone but the osteoclasts keep entering my system from stopping Prolia. Its a gamble either way. Ty again for any input. Appreciate it.

I had a compression fracture of my L4-L5. I couldn’t walk due to extreme pain, Pain lasted for weeks(in a brace). Oxycodone did not give me much relief.

I had a compression fractured T 11 and I was in bed for two weeks with it. After eight treatments with Softwave Therapy I only had fatigue in my back left. After a few more treatments, my back is fine except for getting tired easily.

May I ask what Softwave Therapy is?
