I started taking one Gabapentin 300mg at bedtime for internal vibrations over a year ago. These vibrations have no visible sign and escalate with high emotions…they came out of nowhere. The Gabapentin keeps the issue under control with some breakthrough moments. My neurologist said it was safe to take at this level for the rest of my life (I’m a very active 68yo). I haven’t experienced any adverse reactions and it helps me sleep at night.

@mcneill --I've been taking 300 mg Gabapentin at night and 300mg in the morning for post-stroke leg pain for 3 years. My physiatrist said I could take it the rest of my life (I'm 78). I have no idea if it's helping, but I'm afraid to go off and see! Also, I know you need to taper off very very slowly if you discontinue.

I was up to 2200 mg of gabapentin for my leg pain. It did nothing for me. My Dr weaned me off very slowly.
I’m glad this med works for some of you.

I take 300mg once nightly as needed for pain. Should I be concerned for long term effects?

I have been taking 300 mg. of gabapentin before bedtime for years. I have been told by various doctors that this is a very low dose, but it definitely helps calm my neuropathy so I can sleep. I wake up groggy and attribute that to the gabapentin, but once I get moving I’m fine.

I have been taking 300mg Gabapentin three times a day for just over a year now for Functional (Neurological) Movement Disorder. As others have said, it's a relatively low dose and evidently can be taken long term.

@mreichertres I was on 900mg every night. I took myself off after learning about the side effects. No problem. I had no side effects while on and no side effects of being not on.

@stevegrinstead: What was the main side effect you read about that you found worrisome?
