@earle if you are going to attempt self dilation you need to discuss with a doctor that knows how to do it. Every stricture is different. Mine is only 1.5 cm long and I did have surgery so mine is where they joined the stomach with esophagus. Anyway, discuss with your doctor to see if self dilation is viable for you but it seems to me it should be. My endoscopist dilated me to 20mm every time sonI bought three bougies, one 17mm, one 18.5mm, and one 20mm.
I started with the 17mm for a few occasions and after that I did one after the other in one session every five days or so. After a few months I quit doing dilations and I stayed open. Since then I do a tuneup every four months or so.
