Also do Keagle‘s to improve your ability to be continent after surgery? It can help a lot, even if you start off being incontinent after the surgery.

8 ReactionsTo combine the two of you together: do kegels while doing your core training. Engage on the effort, release on the rest. I did that for months before surgery and feel like I could bend steel with my pelvic floor muscles.

7 ReactionsDo those Kegels. I did them religiously before and after my RP, and had ZERO incontinence. Best wishes🙏

2 ReactionsAnybody have the rezum treatment to reduce the prostate size before removal surgery? I'm wondering if a smaller prostate would mean less urethra to also be cut away?
@tootall10
It sure couldn’t hurt to try to do it, Never heard anybody having it done.
Studies show ADT, often used before radiation, can reduce prostate volume by an average of 30% to over 45%, with more significant shrinkage occurring within the first 6–12 months of treatment.
That might be a better way to do it. I had it before radiation, but you could also have it before surgery.

I'm reading that Rezum is normally just to remove prostate cells along the urethra, not reducing the overall prostate size. Kind of an ablation similar to TURP.
On the other hand I had my 100+ cc prostate slightly reduced in size prior to surgery using ADT. The large prostate size did mean a significant change in the urethra and reattachment meant a 'pull' on the exiting end, changing my 'manly' feature forever.
I guess this raises another obvious question... did anyone have an MRI before and after a Rezum treatment and did it indicate a reduction in size?
@kjacko
I agree. I, too, did Kegels before my open prostatectomy that was 16 days ago. In fact, I requested from my urologist an order to receive PT before the surgery to make sure I was doing the Kegels properly and to develop muscle memory. As of today, I have very little incontinence issues - minimal squirts which I’m learning to control when I cough or rise. I am committed to the Kegel exercises (BUT don’t overdo!) I am VERY encouraged…though I understand this road to full recovery is a journey, not an event.

3 ReactionsI’m 4 months post surgery for RP. I was doing kegels as best I knew how but continued leekage. I read about Pelvic floor PT asked my doctor for a referal and have been going two weeks. I highly recommend it! I’m beginning to see some improvement! And understand how any why kegels are important!
