Why do I have pain 3 months after colorecal surgery?

Had a partial colorectal surgery in December. It now hurts in multiple areas when touched.

Hi 🙂 It can definitely take a lot of time for pain to subside. Its major surgery. Depending on what they had to do you have tissue that is scarring and reconnecting to muscle and things removed. You do need to give your body grace to heal. When you say it hurts, is it only in certain instances? I know mine hurt for a while. I was wearing a pillow pushed against my stomach everywhere I went to keep my tummy from doing acrobats. I would certainly mention it to your surgeon. I did end up getting a siroma which was a pocket of fluid built up in the surgical site months after being operated on. Its been a couple years now and my scars still hurt at times. Some pain is normal but follow for sure. They may want you in to check everything is ok. Check for redness and heat. I wish you quick healing and will pray for you.

Hi I had a colon resection in Dec. I still get twinges of pain all over my stomach it feels like nerve pain to me, what I have done is wear a binder to support my stomach since I still have no muscle strength like I use to. Talk to your doctor about your pain, keep an eye out for any changes in your incision. Best of luck hope you find some relief

After this surgery, especially if open like mine was, you have to be very ultra careful not to overdo and pull things inside and outside….if you have pain, docs must be called…if not, get a doc’s prescription for mild PT, very gentle… i then went on to more PT with core strengthening, great breathing exercises..nothing rushed ! Patience will be rewarded…of course, stop anything that brings on pain !

@loloz, like @myjiggers1 @ireland123 and @nycmusic mention, you've had major surgery. I hope you've seen some of the helpful suggestions that @ireland123 and @nycmusic offered.

I agree that you should talk with your doctor if you are not seeing any improvements. It can help to keep a journal of the pain, rate it 1 (mild) to 3 (very painful) and what activity you were doing at the time: sleeping, sitting, eating, walking, etc.

It's been a couple of weeks since you posted. Do you feel like it is improving and that you might be turning a corner?

@colleenyoung since I have a CT scan on the 6th, I thought I would wait to see if it shows anything. Pain is still there. But not as severe as it was. I find that wearing an abdominal band helps. Thankyou to everyone that gave advice. God bless you all.

@nycmusic also, we do better to be very careful of how we move, what we lift and carry…it takes time to heal, inside and outside.

@loloz , how did the scan go? Have you met with your oncologist to review it?
