@rollingf I'm sorry you've had those experiences with the death of loved ones in your life but we all seem to have them at one time or another. When my Mom died she told me in the hospital that she was going home tonight but not to our home. Also in 2024 my husband knew he was dying and said so. You are right. The spirit is a powerful force and especially so when returning to God. However we will all be together again in Heaven but it's in God's time and we have to wait for that time which can be hard and lonely. We just have to have faith and keep praying to God. He's always there for us.

what you say is true. The spirit IS in Heaven, but as powerful as it is, it remains here too. I believe to guide us and comfort us. We think we're "remembering" or "thinking" about one whose material existence (flesh) has expired. It's not an act in vain. Maybe we are calling on the spirit of the loved one, and the spirit is present for us. I've had brilliantly real dreams in which my grandmother or uncle comforted and guided me- and I took there advice. Three times I believe the message came from higher up. Jung called these "Big Dreams."
These energies are as subtle and sacred as a breath. It's too bad the commercial world has Whoopi Goldberg turning it into a joke, but underneath, there may be a Truth which people have acknowledged since antiquity. It is not science, subject to proof, but so many know/feel this that it may be one of the things that is beyond Science, like Love. Doesn't mean it's not true.
