I was a dog groomer and had horses for 30 years in California. I have always had 2 dogs, and I had an EMU! I also lived across the street from a mushroom farm at that time. I have coughed for as long as I remember, but I would never get sick. When I moved to Florida 7 years ago, I was diagnosed with MAC and Bronchiectasis. I tried to think about how I could have gotten it. After hearing that MAC is in water, soil and the air, All I could think of was the lifestyle that I had lived. Grooming dogs and horses with all of that hair flying around everywhere. Cleaning stalls and spreading out shavings watching the dust everywhere. And I love gardening. If I had been diagnosed in California would I have given up my lifestyle? Hell no. It was my joy. I am now MAC free, but still deal with my Bronchiectasis. I wear a mask when I am doing yard work, and I exercise daily, walk a lot, play tennis and golf. You may have to make some changes, but never give up what you love doing! Oh, I'm 71.
