@spyder05,
Welcome to Mayo Connect. I am not familiar with Nortriptyline, but I did a quick search. I actually found a mention of it in multiple groups on Connect. Even though it is used to treat depression, it may also be prescribed off-label for chronic pain, such as diabetic neuropathy, migraines, and nerve pain. It works by increasing levels of norepinephrine and serotonin in the brain and, due to its sedative properties, is sometimes used to aid with sleep.

If you use the search capability in Connect, you will see other members who have used:

Are you currently using it, or has your provider suggested it?

@roch >I am considering it for severe IBS-D which has changed my life, it is so bad. I do have "Major Depression & Anxiety Disorder", too, and I am on Duluxotine , which doesn't help that much. I am 79-yrs old, and it is not advised for patients my age, I was told. What in the world could be worse than having severe diarrhea al the time, including horrible accidents I won't describe for your sake? This diarrhea has made me a prisoner in my home because I am so scared of "accidents" if I go anywhere. Thank you for your information. I will let you know if I go on it and the consequences, if there are any.
