Effexor XL and insomnia

Posted by silmil93 @silmil93, Jan 12 11:57pm

Hi everyone,
4 days ago I increase Effexor XL from 75 mg to 150mg. Since then I have been unable to sleep consistently. I go to bed at around 11 pm, I wake up at 4 pm, start tossing and turning and then fall back asleep in an hour or so. I had the same issue when I started with 75 mg.
Has anyone of you experienced the same problem? How long did it take to get better?
I take Effexor at 8am and I don't drink any coffee or tea just for reference, I take magnesium, vit D and b6 on a daily basis to help regulare my sleep, bu the last 4 days have been quite tough.
I would really appreciate hearing your own experience. That would help me get through this initial phase.
Thank you!

It really shocks me how this day and age that there is not a better handle, treatment for depression, anxioty etc. Dr's try all sorts of different antidepressants to find the best one but it is extremely difficult on the person. You would think at this point and so many suffering they would have a idea of the highest rating medication or combinations. As more and more are being diagnosed there should be more studies, advancements. I've had luck for years until menopause I believe and the anxioty, depression has changed too more, making myself change to the person I use to be. I just can't get back to that person. Have changed medication few times. Long drawn out process.
I have be content with the person I am today which is too bad as I'm 66 and it's the last part of life. I must accept and very grateful for what I have

@pjs70 Try a Prozac bridge. I just came off 225mg of Effexor after 10 years with no side effects with the Prozac bridge. There is no need to suffer.

@sallyo420 I started 10mg Prozac today to try to help with the horrible withdrawal im experiencing from decreasing from 150 (which i was only on for 4 weeks) to 75. How long did you let prozac get in your system before going down in dose?

@dberthelet I've never heard any doctor say that medication alone is going to take care of depression or anxiety. It is supposed to be used to help with symptoms so we can work on the issues in therapy. Medicine is not going to cure any of it.

@egkamb I used Effexor 37.5 with 40mg of Prozac to substitute for one 75mg. I stayed on that for around a week and then eliminated the 37.5mg and was just on 40mg. I would stay with that for around a week and start with the next 75mg of Effexor. When I was down to just 40mg Prozac I stayed on that for around a week and went off that. I had no negative withdrawal effects at all.

I was on 225mg of Effexor for 20 years. I went off of it and was surprised at how well I am sleeping now. I was taking Trazadone and was immediately able to stop it. I didn't realize how much Effexor was ramping me us. I also had a problem with diarrhea which also stopped as soon as I stopped the Effexor.
