Hello @sueinmn -
I was seeing my orthopedic for my other hip (LEFT); and I complained of buttock dull pain. I was sent to a specialist on SI joints; they did only an x-ray; I then had an injection of lidocaine to see if there was any sort of relief; but as I told them post injection, I do not have the pain all day long, it comes and goes. Even so, I followed up with a cortisone injection that did nothing. I have been using PT exercises and that has given me about 70% relief. And now the chiropractor I'm seeing who believes it is my replaced hip and NO I don't know what type of material the replacement is. I think it was a ceramic but I will check. Thanks for those questions.

@bart12mike I'm sorry you are in pain. Your pain sounds familiar to my husband's after hip replacement. I suggested to PT to treat him for nerve damages manifesting directly behind the hip replacement on buttocks. I told PT my story after breast cancer surgery.
PT used tens unit 2's a week for 4 weeks placed strategically to treat nerve pain in husband's buttocks. It worked, taking the pain away! Its been over a year of pain free since treatment. Just recently the same pain is starting up again when he stands from prolonged sitting. Likely he'll return for tens unit treatment.
FYI i had nerve pain in my back directly behind where breast surgery was done. PT used ultra sound on my back 2x's weekly for 6 weeks. All pain in back stopped, never returned. It been 10 years.

@bart12mike If PT is helping at all - and you say almost 70% - that pretty much indicates pain of muscular or tendon origin; if it were the joint you’d have minimal, if any, relief.
