I have mild asthma and mild bronchiectasis. I was sick with frequent and persistent upper respiratory infections prior to getting correct diagnoses.
My asthma is a little persistent cough rather than a wheeze. I use Advair inhaler 2x/day. I have an albuterol inhaler and neb albuterol mostly daily except when traveling or busy day and I use inhaler before hypertonic saline. I had the little cough constantly before Advair and had a dramatic reduction in frequency after starting it. I don’t think Albuterol inhaler helps. The cough now is just occasional after vigorous activity (not during) or with cold or wind. I quit coughing after a couple hours if inside, Albuterol or not. I had it at pre-op appt with my PMD last week on a bitter windy day. I had nebbed 2 hrs earlier. I told her the Albuterol inhaler doesn’t help the cough. She still insisted I carry it-I will. Peppermint lozenges help more.

My bronchiectasis is mild and in 2 lobes per Mayo. I do airway clearance, mostly daily. Since I got diagnosed and treated, esp after adding hypertonic saline in fall of 2024, my frequent respiratory infections have dramatically decreased. Getting my chronic sinusitis under control played a major role, it seems.
I went to Mayo pulmonologist for diagnosis and plan and follow with a Penn pulmonologist. I have an allergist/immunologist for an autoimmune issue. For the first year or two, I saw ENT frequently, but am stable with meds now and will see him if culture needed.

Good luck! I think a diagnosis and plan by docs who know the disease makes a tremendous difference in our health.

@pacathy
May I ask how you treated your sinusitis? Nasal rinses?
