Differentiated Liposarcoma: What treatments have you had?
A few weeks ago I was diagnosed with Differentiated Liposarcoma which seems to be a very rare cancer, I am having a hard time researching for related information. The MAYO team have been great to do the needed tests. The Mass has grown and attached to the colin and bladder and surrounded the main blood vessel that sends blood the the leg and foot so surgery is not an option. I am also told chemo is not option in my case so we will be looking at radiation.
If there is anyone out there that has this Liposarcoma cancer I would appreciate hearing from you and learning about your life with this cancer. Are their other alternative treatments that anyone is aware of?

Hello.....many surgeons want to reduce the size of the target tumor to make the surgery more manageable, and possibly a better outcome. The tradeoff being the extra burden of side effects of the chemo before surgery. You should have a clear understanding of those side effects, as well as what the surgeons expect from the chemo and how certain they are of "success" with all that. Also important is your Mom's age, relative health and stamina, and her willingness to tolerate chemo, before a major surgery. For the "surgery alone" option, given it may be a larger area to remove without chemo, the impact on the organs affected and the affect on your Mom's quality of life should be weighed. Also, what are the potential complications of surgery alone? Each choice has it's own significant impacts on your Mom, so hopefully each Dr should be able to give you more information regarding those impacts before your Mom decides on the course to take. I had sarcoma, and my treatment path was both chemo and radiation before surgery. For what it is worth.
@amelieonsoti my husband has the same lipo sarcoma, he has had it recurring since 2016 and every time he had a biopsy don’t it triples in size within two weeks or less.
