An artificial urinary sphincter (AUS) caution: Wear a MediAlert

If I haven't posted this before, I'll repeat it.
If you have an AUS or maybe even balloons on your urethra, be cautious of any catheterization. Inserting that tube when the device is "closed" could cause damage to your urethra tissue.
I ware a MediAlert wrist band as a warning should I need emergency treatment of any kind. While recently in the hospital, though not anticipating needing a catheter, I told the admitting nurse and she/we used a sharpie to write "No Foley" on my ID wrist band in addition to my MediAlert. Good luck you AUS wearers.

And that's why I have a Medic Alert bracelet.

I assume this is an American site:

Mine says "Artificial Urinary Sphincter. Please see Urologist before catherization"
