Grounding: Anyone use somatic exercises or products?

Posted by yengame7 @yengame7, 1 day ago

Started seeing an osteopath, and she is suggesting some modalities and one is "grounding" or "earthing". Sounds a little woo-woo to me, but open to different perspectives.

She suggested this website "earthingharmony.com" to see if I might be interested in any of their products and came across their sheets.

Has anyone ever tried anything like them and with any noticeable impact?

Thank you, Amy Coleman

@yengame7, I visited the website and it looks like it sells a lot of products. I would research their claims thoroughly before spending your hard-earned money.

Quoting from this article from Mayo Clinic:
- Can online health information be trusted? Here’s how to tell https://mcpress.mayoclinic.org/healthy-aging/can-online-health-information-be-trusted-heres-how-to-tell/

"Be wary of websites that promise “miracle cures” or are selling a product. If something seems too good to be true, it probably isn’t true."

That being said, 'grounding' is one of many terms that used to describe somatic practices. Other terms include mindfulness, earthing, forest bathing, breath work, etc. Somatic means “of, relating to, or affecting the body.” Somatic psychotherapy places importance on awareness of the body’s senses and sensations in connection with emotions.

Some people use somatic exercise for trauma, anxiety and pain. Before buying products, you may wish to try somatic exercises to see if it supports your management of pain.

Yes, I certainly would research thoroughly. I used to be a body work practitioner and am very familiar with different people responding to different treatment modalities but there are just so many new products and devices it's overwhelming to do all the research yourself.

Thanks
