Continent ileostomy and pre diabetes

Posted by jean4 @jean4, Nov 19, 2025

I have had a continent ileostomy for 47 years and my A1c recently scored at 5.7. AI research suggests that due to the ostomy my grains should be refined and not whole. Hard for me to believe. Any tips on lowering A1c?

@jean4 I’m not very familiar with a continent ileostomy but I have had diabetes for 50+ years. The best thing you can do to get A1C down is to develop an eating an exercise plan that you can commit to. A dietician can help you customize it for you individually. As far as exercise goes, you won’t do it if you hate it. Find an activity you don’t mind doing. Start small and work your way up. Don’t overwhelm yourself with huge changes. You can also get a blood sugar tester for cheap and there are lots of record keeping systems that might be helpful to use. A lot of it is just being mindful of it.
