From just me personally would never stop a medication without consultation with my doctors.
Back in 2015 I had 5 ICD shocks in 24 hours because my heart went into VTAC. In hospital I was put on Amiodarone by the hospital cardiologist not my EP. When released I studied the Amiodarone about all the toxicity and side affects.
It was not something I did no want to take unless absolutely necessary. It is though a very strong medication that works. I contacted my EP (Mayo Jacksonville) and we talked about getting off of it because of the toxicity to eyes and organs. He agreed but we worked out a plan to slowly come off. It was a period of 2 months.
Later on about 8 years later started having VTAC and shocks. My EP suggested Mexiletine. He said was similar to Amiodarone benefit for helping with tachycardia but without the toxic side affects. The only drawback was that it did not last long in blood stream (thus low toxicity) and had to be taken every 8 hours.
I started taking it and did not have a tachycardia episode for over a year and only one about 3 months ago that I was not shocked but my pacemaker paced me out of it. It had lasted 8 seconds. The Mexiletine also reduced my PVCs in half.
Ask your doctors about the mexiletine since you stopped the Amiodarone yourself as the need to know that and mentioned the Mexiletine to them. I had no side affects with Mexiletine and per medical doctors the medication has a very low toxicity with this medication.
@jc76 Thank you so much, for your comment! I see my cardiologist on Tuesday will let all of commentators what he says! Wish me luck and thank you
