January 2026 spine surgeries - Let's hear the positive outcomes!

Posted by sherrym25 @sherrym25, Dec 30, 2025

Hey everyone, I know we have several people scheduled for spine surgeries in January.
Looking to hear how each of you are doing and what your current situation is. So many people are in this group and it’s so easy to get lost unless we keep up with what is going on with you.
I am one year post op T11-L4 fusion at the Phoenix Mayo Clinic for a 40 degrees scoliosis curve.

I recently read a statement someone made on a Facebook spine surgery page from a person answering a question. The question was, why don’t we hear positive results from surgery. The other person answered and said because those who have positive results have moved on and are living their lives. I really believe this is true. My surgery was amazingly positive, but I still feel the need to hang in here and cheer others on. I hope those of you who have positive results will do the same in the future.
We are all here for you.❤️🙏
Sherry

@rwdixon4 Bob, I’m so excited for your surgery! I was at Phoenix Mayo for nine days and then flew home. I think it’s wonderful that you get to be in a nursing home for a week or so. That’s really going to help you heal up before your flight home. My flight wasn’t bad. They’ll take you through in the wheelchair and you’ll get to sit in the front seat. I flew Southwest and they really took care of me.
Please keep all of us updated along the way! I remember typing on this site as I was sitting on the gurney after they had put my IVs in. There’s a lot of excitement, but also plenty of time to communicate with others.
Best, Sherry

@sherrym25 hi Sheri I’m still at Mayo Phoenix still having a lot of pain haven’t got a brace that fits right yet today’s day six I think hope to have the right brace in the next day or so then they want me to go to an acute rehab rehabilitation hospital for maybe five days?
We’ll see I’m having a tough time using this phone as a computer. I should’ve brought my laptop and should’ve brought a friend to fly back with me. I think I’ve got that resolved hopefully soon.?
Hope you’ve been for a ride on your young horse👍

@rwdixon4 Hi Bob, I’m so sorry you are struggling with pain. When we talked the other day, I could hear it in your voice. Please make sure they’ve got good control of your pain before you leave. I’m glad they plan a rehab facility for you. Have they said when you might go there?
Are you doing good with your walks out on the floor?

I have not ridden my young horse yet…. but I did run the tractor around on the arena to smooth out the sand after all the storms we’ve had here. Next step is to start working my colt.😊

I know what you are going through right now, but it shall pass. My life is so wonderful now with my “new” back and yours will be too.

You are in my prayers, Sherry

I love hearing the positive outcomes!

I'm 3.5 years post surgery, fused from T4 to S1. Other than not being able to bend, I'm back to doing everything I used to do. Hiking, cross country skiing, down hill skiing, cycling, slow jogs. I feel like I got my life back.

The journey was long, but worth it!

Mine is not a recent surgery but would love to share my story & outcome . I had Scoliosis ( 48 degree angle S Shape) Surgery June 23, 1981 in San Diego, Ca. Childrens Hospital, outcome overall has been positive. I have lived a pretty productive life, giving birth to 2 children 1990 & 1994 even though at the age of 13 ( year of surgery), I was told that I might never have any & def. not to term ( which i did/ even if it was thru C-+sections). Although I am now as I'm older am having many issues, I don't complain. I have worked all my life till 4 years ago & in 2025 was disabled due to my issues. The harrignton Rod Fusion to me I believe saved my life otherwise I'd be much worse off.

@pacmanpost I’m impressed! You’re doing great! It’s amazing when spine surgery gives you your life back. Bee keeping… now that’s interesting and so vital. I also enjoy hiking and I own a horse and trail ride. I had a cervical fusion 9 years ago. I also like watching ballroom dancing.

Returning to kayaking. Forgot to mention that. Couldn’t do it last season as my boat has a narrow keyhole cockpit.

I am 76 years old, and had 3 level laminectomy, L3, 4, and partial 5 on November 21 at Mayo Rochester with Dr Marsh. Fusion was not required. 15 years of increasing pain on either side of the sacrum was gone when I woke up from surgery. Foot numbness mostly gone. Twitching of calf muscles gone. I resumed ballroom dancing lessons last week which I had previously discontinued due to inability to stand more than five minutes without sitting. Last week’s lesson I could stand and move the entire hour. Resumed unrestricted walking, including back country trails, where before I had to frequently sit or lean up against something. I am still on a 25 pound lifting restriction until the end of January, but after that no restrictions. I’m looking forward to resuming cycling after that, as well as downhill skiing which Dr Marsh said I could do in the spring. I’m also a backyard beekeeper and can resume that activity with some modifications/adaptions. Without a doubt, I’m very pleased with the results.

@pacmanpost Hi, how long did you have foot numbness before you had your surgery on 11/21?

@ccchang About 15 years but progressively worse over time. originally it was just a little toe on one foot, then a while later, both little toes, and finally spreading to the entire foot. There is some residual toe numbness, but much improved since before the surgery. Hopefully the residual will go away.

I do believe I am on that site and I did see that same comment about successful surgeries February 27th 2026 I am going in to have all of the hardware removed as the pain that I am feeling is the broken screws and toggled screws rubbing against my bone causing pain

Hi Everyone,
Sorry I sort of disappeared. I am dealing with family issues--sibling short term memory loss and scam victim (sister).

Yesterday was the 8 month anniversary of my T 10 to Pelvis surgery coupled with bi-lateral Sacroilliac Fusions.

My back is doing great! The pre-surgery chronic pain is gone. I do still get some temporary pain if sit too long--often the next day. Icing still feels great. Walking 2 miles a day-- 1 mile in the morning and 1 mile in the afternoon. Walking and speed limited by residual radicular issue (numbness and tingling--for lack of a better identifier--in my right calf, and occasionally in the arch of my foot. I experienced this prior to surgery and, hopefully, with time it should go away. My nerves are no longer pinched and it takes a long time for nerves to recover. The numbness does limit my walking distance and speed. And, the numbness increases when going up hills.
Other than that all is well.
For nerve issue, taking Pregabalin, Dulixetine, and Low Dose Naltrexone--- all at very low doses.

Best Wishes to everyone!
Nadine
