@cholash No, that's what I saw. Are you saying they didn't respond to you when you asked directly? IMHO if you buy from a local retailer it is likely they do not have 2yo inventory on their shelves. The source and age of online products can be a little more murky.

@sueinmn the entire tea bag /microplastic issue gets really murky for me, which is really unfortunate , as I’m a tea drinker .
Tea companies have emailed me back , saying they don’t use plastics , but rather PLA’s. I emailed Buddha teas , and here was part of their response ;

“Previously, we used cellulose tea bags sealed with plastic during the heat-sealing process. However, we’ve since transitioned to a more sustainable option. We still use cellulose tea bags, but now they are sealed with polylactic acid (PLA). This eliminates plastic from the tea bags themselves, making them fully compostable.”

My concern is there are many current studies stating PLA’s are microplastics , and there are real concerns with their effects on health . I really want to try the Mullin tea, but for me, avoiding plastics , PLA’s is a concern .
The tea companies say PLA’s are safe , but the literature is saying different . Again , many studies , so if you’re interested , you can look into it. Here’s just one….
