Yes, @val64 was very helpful! Because of her information I went ahead with the oral Capecitabine + infusion of Gemcitabine. I started that last Thursday, 1/8. I felt fine for 2 days. Unfortunately, I had bad side effects by Friday night. Nausea was bad, but I'm able to control that. The worst is gout. Both Gem and Cap cause gout flares + Creon (pancreatic enzyme) that I was also taking. If you don't have gout, there probably wouldn't be a problem. But I have family history of serious gout and it's completely debilitating, having to crawl to the bathroom is not pleasant! I stopped the Creon and Capecitabine right away. It's Monday and I can still barely walk (my dog's not happy). I'll go for my next infusion on the 15th but not sure if I'll take the Cap again. There's something very scary about taking a pill that you're not supposed to touch with your hands...pretty toxic? But currently having to endure gout is the worst issue.
I'm wondering how other gout patients are dealing with chemotherapy, especially GemCap??
