What have you created lately?

Posted by alive @alive, May 30, 2025

I love working on creative projects! Over the years I have done gourd art, calligraphy, cross stitching, made purses and bags from recycled jeans and have created locker hooking tapestries.

This week I have been attending virtual arts and crafts workshops and have learned so much! Since I am working on a lot of projects made from recycled clothes, I especially enjoyed a workshop on making a landscape picture out of fabric. Here’s the piece I have just finished. It’s only 5x7, but it was a lot of fun making it.

I hope others will share their latest projects!

"a second life," what a great way to put it. At one time I showed a film on creativity as part of a class & the memorable line to me was
"creative people look at one thing & see another " ...meaning possibilities
of course.
I like to buy skirts and make scarves out of them as really they are just
a few yards of fabric that is easily disassembled. = FUN!
Hurray for the Salvation Army, Goodwill, etc! K

@alive Hello Fella Crafters:

I certainly love the "thrill of a find" in the thriftique-unique stores.
The quote you shared is so "fitting".
Exciting-challenge is trying to make it fit.
Sewing each stich creates a masterpiece.

quilterfingers here.
So happy to see all the sewing artists. I have dabbled for 20 some years as U can see from my name.
We just had a mtg on making jackets out of quilts and tablecloths. It is the new thing! It is a great way to cope.

I have only made one quilt of note but like sewing.....
Your saying it is a great way to cope gave me food for thought.
My husband died recently & I realize that when I sew the pain recedes
for awhile.....I guess it is the concentration. Makes me determined to do
more sewing since it makes me calmer & almost happy. Thanks. K

Yes, quilting involves accurately measuring, cutting & piecing. It can also take creativity if you are a do it yourself person, I have made quilts that are half traditional and half my own design.
I started late in life. I am now sharing my skills with young women. There friendship keeps me young. If you can find a young person to share your skills with it may ease the void you have experienced. I am sorry for your loss.

A 6 week challenge of 3 or 4 things to do daily each week for the classes I teach. Every week has new items. Things that don’t take a lot of time but are good for you. For example, stop and take 5 mindful breaths three times. Or, say something nice to yourself.

I make polymer clay magnets! I call them creations. Most of my creations are mini versions of food. I’ve been running low on inspiration recently but I’ve been trying to force myself to think of things to make. I also love Legos!! I have since I was a kid and rediscovered how much fun they are in the past couple of years. Creativity is what makes the world wonderful, I think 🙂

@hannarayne That’s so cool! I did work with polymer clay many years ago, but used it more as accessories for what I was already creating. You should post some pictures of your favorite “foods”.

I have been writing silly "Dad Jokes" and submitting videos of me telling them to a local TV station.
So far, two of them have been on the air.
You can find links on my YouTube channel:

As I've said, you work your whole career, nobody cares. Write goofy jokes, they put you on TV!

@scottrl By the way, last year I had at least eight Dad Jokes air on local TV here in Dallas/Fort Worth.

Plus, another joke I submitted elsewhere was on a national TV show.

When I had a stroke seven years ago, I could not have imagined that I'd be a "TV star" one day. Go figure. (And a good reminder that keeping a sense of humor is important.)

And the Dad Jokes now have their own playlist on my YouTube channel:

Good morning, @hearttoheart1. I’m so delighted to see you back in the forum sharing with us today!! You are always such a source of inspiration and positivity after rising above the world of depression and hurt you endured several years ago. I’m so proud of how you pulled yourself up and reinvented your life. That took immense strength and fortitude!
I follow you along on Pixelilywreaths! Your work is just fabulous and if not for an ocean apart, I’d be a regular customer!
Thank you for sharing your love of crafting and your joy of living! Much more than fondly, Lori.
