Bowel motion cements after colon surgery
I had 60 cm of colon removed in 2021 and still have frequent bouts of loose stools that interrupt my sleep and daytime activities. Can something like meta mucil help?

I have used Metamucil for constipation and also for the fibre benefit, I do know that if you don’t drink enough water when using this product it can become thick and potentially cause a blockage. I’m not sure if this is why you’re asking but if it were me I wouldn’t do it without talking to your doctor about it, you’ve had a big surgery and a lot removed so I’m not surprised that you’re having some problems with loose stools. There’s many products for these problems but to be sure I’d play it safe, best wishes.

1 ReactionHow does removing intestine give feces more time to solidify?
@hopeseeker22 That’s a good point, I think it probably depends on your diet, there’s probably information on how to eat and what to avoid, perhaps even how much you’re allowed to drink through the day. There’s certain foods that create bulk to firm the stools, it’s definitely something that your doctor would know more about or a nutritionist.
Have you tried probiotics to help create a healthier gut biome? I know there’s some excessive probiotic this and that out there these days. I had a colon resection due to a perforation caused by colon cancer blockage two years ago. My whole system was a toxic mess. Taking a good probiotic capsule every evening helped rebuild my system. I tend towards constipation but I think it’s the same principle to create balance in our digestive system.

2 ReactionsAfter my sigmoidectomy (and ostomy reversal and failure) in 2016 I finally got to recovery. Took months. Actually years. I had diarrhea terribly. Interrupted my life. Once it started it would not stop. But I started on loparamide. Then I found the right regimine of TARGET specifically, probiotics (30 billion), basic target brand psyllium fiber and once my system adjusted to this, my use of antidiarrheals dropped dramatically and I was able to use them sparingly after a while and I had normal BMs and everything. Granted more issues formed that caused the opposite problem after a while (not due to the meds but healing and scarring issues).
But that's what worked for me. I had spend years finding it out for myself and my body. Once I did, I felt significantly more confident leaving or travelling or anything really. Good luck. I'm only 35 and have had to discover this journey.
