I have seen all the horror stories about others trying to get off of lexapro. I think I made a mistake asking my primary care to prescribe something if my anxiety. I’m starting counseling and I believe that is the best way for me to deal with my anxiety. In my experience all the doctors I have seen do not have a clue about tapering.

@jody1979 Counseling can be a real godsend. Remember, it isn't an overnight thing, and you will need to "do the work, for the work to happen"!
At least ask your doctor about tapering off. You may be surprised. And I imagine she/he would want to know that you want to taper off, or move to something else, in addition to starting counseling. As I like to remember and tell myself, "it's a team thing".
