I started taxol/carboplatin chemo for a 3c high-grade serous ovarian cancer a week ago. I bought and used the cryo mitts and boots available on Amazon. They warmed up before the end of my chemo infusion. I had constipation, from the steroid anti emetics. Day two and three unrelenting deep ankle and knee pain.
I have found movement has helped. They also have me on 200 mg of B6 per day to prevent the neuropathy.
Despite this I have tingling in my lips, finger tips and feet. Feet and knee pain improved on day 4 possibly due to using knee high moderate compression hose. Every time I take them off within a few hours there is an increase in the feet and leg pain/electric zinging.
My research leans toward compression as effective as cold and more tolerable. The stumbling block is medical grade compression is reported the most effective but requires a prescription and use instructions and my oncologist seems unfamiliar. Compression for hands it is recommended to use the smallest medical glove doubled. 2 on each hand. The article gives no details of use outside of during and one hour after chemo. The research also gives no specific information about full leg vs thigh high etc. Based on my personal experience wearing the lesser level of compression alleviates some pain so I keep them on much of the time. I also went back to fitness classes as well as walking at least a mile a day. All really do help me.
Tonight I read a few articles that seem to indicate B complex or specifically B12 may help reduce neuropathy. I resumed taking my B12 supplement after inquiring about it with the ONC nurse.
I also understand that massage, acupuncture have been helpful for others I have connected with who are further along in treatment.
Finally, and not sure what I will do with the information yet, Some new research using CBD and THC in treatment has shone effectiveness in arresting and killing the cancer however it was lab study not human study so too many unknowns if it will act the same in patients.
I had my grands help cut and buzz my head before it starts to fall out this weekend. It gave me control, an opportunity to help them understand and not be afraid of a bald me. Also, don’t think I would handle waking up to clumps of hair on my pillow. Also much bigger mess than the stubble falling out.
Other survivor warriors highly recommended bamboo or cotton beanies. I saved some hair to color match if I decide I want a wig. I also am making my third donation to locks of love. It feels good knowing some kid with cancer will benefit…
Hope all this helps…

Hi- Thank you for responding to my post!
I was recently diagnosed with Endometrial carcinoma
It was diagnosed after what was intended to be a straightforward hysterectomy/ was not suspected to have cancer. Cancer was discovered in both ovaries and my right fallopian tube. After some consultation it was decided to proceed with chemo therapy, carboplatin and taxol every 3 weeks for 6 cycles.
I have had 2 separate opinions who confirmed the same course of treatment.
Pathology confirmed my cancer to be Endometrioid ovarian carcinoma with squamous and sex cord-like features, FIGO Grade 2, FIGO Stage at least II
I was recommended by a friend to consider fasting to help reduce symptoms from the chemo.
I’m 55 y/ o otherwise healthy, active woman.
I’d love any support or recommendations 😊
