What have you created lately?

Posted by alive @alive, May 30, 2025

I love working on creative projects! Over the years I have done gourd art, calligraphy, cross stitching, made purses and bags from recycled jeans and have created locker hooking tapestries.

This week I have been attending virtual arts and crafts workshops and have learned so much! Since I am working on a lot of projects made from recycled clothes, I especially enjoyed a workshop on making a landscape picture out of fabric. Here’s the piece I have just finished. It’s only 5x7, but it was a lot of fun making it.

I hope others will share their latest projects!

I wish I could paint, but my work leaves a lot to be desired. Give me materials and yarn and I’m in a state of bliss.

@mbixler you can do the same. I just start by applying paint (water color, or acrylic) to paper or canvas in random shapes and colors.
Sometimes it turns out horrible, and sometimes I see shapes I can work with.

Material and yarn are not for me. I don’t like the discipline it takes. My brain just cannot deal with perfect order!

I have incorporated what I learned at the workshop in May into my recycled jeans bag design. Here are the first two bags.

sewing does not have to be a perfect order I sew to earn some pin money cat stuff people think it is great I think it could be better Forget clothes they are a bore and the instructions are more confusing that just thinking it thru. Make a quilt a crazy quilt there no rhythm or reason to that type of quilt it is just how you feel and what you have for scraps Goggle it they are simple

Where shall I go
As I march to and fro
The choice is mine
Free for the taking
I choose to time travel
Within picturesque places
Upon small and empty spaces
I may never cross the path
I dream of well
That I know one step
Is all it takes.

@zenren14 Beautiful! I don’t write poetry but admire those who do.

Do you find that winter is a great time for creativity? I like having multiple projects to work on this time of the year.

Last month I learned a new quilting technique meant to use up tiny scraps (think 1 inch square or less) by fusing & quilting it to a background. I cut the resulting quilt to fit the back, lapels and collar of of a jean jacket for a fiber art show. Liking it so well that I am doing a similar one for myself.
Also planning a new gallery layout for a fiber art show later in April - it is so different to what is usually done that I need to make a prototype to show the other artists. Theme "Loose Threads"
These new projects really have ideas humming through my head.

I wrote a song about coming out of a dark place. It's how I felt after starting to recover from prostate cancer, but the song applies to pretty much any tough situation. I play keyboards, can use a drum machine and can write lyrics and a melody but I can't sing or play other instruments so A.I. voices, bass and guitar have FINALLY let me get some of my songs out there without people being subjected to my horrible singing.

Here's a link to the song just in case anyone wants to hear it: https://www.dropbox.com/scl/fi/8ohlpg5sfw8jmiqrt7v8s/Out-of-the-dark.mp4

Something I wrote recently:

What Do You Mean…
By
Scott R. Lucado

What do you mean when you say hello?
Is it a yes, or is it a no?
Do you mean stop, or do you mean go?
Is it just something you say to be nice?
Is it real warmth, or is it dry ice?

What do I mean when I say hello?
Do I mean hurry, or do I mean slow?
Is it a greeting, or something for show?
I hope you can’t see that I’m insecure.
I think that I mean well, but I’m not even sure.

What does it mean when we say goodbye?
Is it forever, or said with a sigh,
A faint hope we’ll grow closer, although we’re both shy?
Or will we find that this is a door,
That once is closed, can be opened no more?

What does it mean when some word arrives?
Words can be healing, or sharper than knives.
Language has power to alter our lives.
Can you ever know what I really intend,
The message received is the one that I send?

Wow! They are beautiful! Do you have a tree just for your ornaments? I also like the animals you made. What a talent!

@alive
Yes I do have a tree exclusively for my ornaments - just established this year. I have also started doing craft shows with a friend.
