Anyone Successfully Treated For Treatment Resistant Depression?
I am 65 years old, and for 25 years been suffering from treatment resistant depression and anxiety. Five psychiatrists and numerous meds with no or little short succes. I am currently back on Lexapro 20mg and Xanax. My doctor wants to raise it up to 30mg which I hear is not recommended. If anyone out there knows a med or treatment to help cure my TRD and anxiety I will be forever grateful!

I feel the same way.. Talking to many different Kinds of thyapy. Is useless. It just digs up the past. And then the memories and anger come flooding back.!! Oh let's try another pill to add to the ones not doing anything.. I'm fed up with taking.

4 ReactionsI have treatment-resistant depression, and I've come to believe that nothing is going to get rid of it for me. However, Spravato (esketamine nasal spray) helps me stay out of inpatient. I go to a clinic once a week, self-administer the nasal spray, and sit in a dark, quiet, comfortable room for two hours. Afterwards, I am not allowed to drive or make important decisions for the rest of the day (until I've had a full night's rest). If you are barely hanging on, I recommend jumping through the hoops needed in order to get on Spravato. For me, it has really been worth it. Even though my depression isn't gone, my life is MUCH better with consistent Spravato treatments. I hope this is helpful.

It seems like so many others we share the same torment. Thank you very much for letting me know that Spravato is finally helping you! Out of desperation I just started TMS. It requires a tremendous amount of time and dedication having to go five days a week for 36 sessions (7 weeks)! But I have no choice and have to try TMS as an option. Thankfully it is covered by insurance! Has anyone out there tried TMS with success! Or any other treatment!
Thank you all for your comments and support!
I am 65 and giving up on meds, if they work they dont work for long and the hell to get off ( I am still on one because I cant get off it).

2 Reactions@jseabass I am thinking about TMS. I need to do some more research
As an 82 y.o. who only rarely has used medications -- the last time was for a cat bite -- and hasn't seen my GP for maybe ten or fifteen years now, and no tests (avoided colonoscopy in early 70s, had no reason I thought) I can only state that keeping our bodies in reasonably healthy state with nutritious food and regular exertion to maintain optimal independence (I just did six floors walk-ups in my bldg at my-highest capacity ( I knew it as I was almost feeling unsteady! Body saying: This is The Limit) did some stepping on balancing pad, and 5 to six 80-lbs each side pullups. Add maybe twenty full-force kicks altogether during the day. I'd like to think it has helped me -- and still does -- to get refreshing sleep and alert mindbody to devote my time for what I believe is worth-doing.
I do have slight pain in my right foot (strange I did have an injection for it some 30 years ago) and slight left knee pain which I read up all I could do with movements and diet to keep me free of getting it worse and hopefully painfree, which I had been since then. Seems we can do a lot to keep our problems at bay. I believe healthy lifestyle does pay back in more ways we may ever know.
I wish you good health.

3 ReactionsI've suffered lifelong depression, but manage it well these days, and without prescription meds.
I'm very much a "diet lifestyle exercise" kinda guy - eat healthy, don't drink to excess, no smoking, and have an exercise program that's age relevant. Also there's great mileage in "training your brain" to minimize negative thoughts. My favorite approach here that when a negative thought arises, snap out of it and immediately think of something very positive. This is where the "snap out of it" expression came from! Try it for two weeks - at first it's not easy, but once it becomes a habit, you may just get amazing results. Plus no doctor or pharmacy bills!

4 Reactions@johneckenrode11 It is never helpful to tell a depressed person to snap out of it. This is the kind of thing that people who don’t understand the nature of depression say. People with depression can’t “snap out of it,” or else they already would have done it. Therapy and medication together have been shown to have actual beneficial effects.

Hey thank you so much for your time and reply! Out of desperation I jumped into TMS treatment. Ughh 5 days a week for 36 sessions!!! But I have ni choice. 25 years, five doctors and dozens of meds some of them tried several times! If the TMS does not help me I will have to try Spravato, then I'm done....
