Does anyone have any questions about papillary thyroid cancer?
I am a 25 year survivor of papillary thyroid cancer and have been volunteering for many years answering many questions from people who have papillary thyroid cancer and have questions about it. I would be happy to answer any questions from people who have concerns about thyroid cancer.

1 ReactionDoes anyone do complimentary treatments like vitamin c iv? I have non reactive papillary cancer.
@tessma, if you would like to seek a second opinion at Mayo Clinic, here's how to get started https://mayocl.in/1mtmR63
Is your care team suggesting further treatment?

1 Reaction@ransom2026, I think you'll find this Mayo Clinc article helpful:
- High-dose vitamin C: Can it kill cancer cells? https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/cancer/expert-answers/alternative-cancer-treatment/faq-20057968
Excerpt:
"There's still no evidence that vitamin C alone can cure cancer, but researchers are studying whether it might boost the effectiveness of other cancer treatments, such as chemotherapy and radiation therapy, or reduce treatment side effects."
More and more cancer centers and oncology specialists are open to discussing and integrating complementary medicine in programs called Integrative Medicine or Integrative Oncology. Integrative medicine can guide you to supplements, therapies and approaches that help manage cancer treatment lasting side effects. Integrative medicince is offered at many cancer centers of excellence, including Mayo Clinic.

I was diagnosed with papillary thyroid carcinoma in August, 2023 and had a total thyroidectomy in October, 2023. 4.4cm nodule in right thyroid lobe, encapsulated, no lymph involvement. Thyroid bed clear after surgery. Had an ultrasound November, 2025 that noted a nonspecific 5mm nodule in right thyroid bed. Stressing about what this means because I was told I was low risk for recurrence and it could be scar tissue. I also had a low dose of RAI in April 2024. I thought that was supposed to get rid of any remnants of tissue and cells? Finding it hard to wait until May, 2026 for next ultrasound.

1 ReactionYou know I read your comment and I’m kind of a very nervous person and I would probably feel like you do but I’m guessing if you were really really worried a lot find a really good thyroid cancer doctor. I would bring a list of questions not too big just a very most important situation‘s that are bothering you the most. It’s amazing that when you find out everything is very good you will feel so much better because I know myself I would get worried about every single thing. my very best wishes to you going forward!!!

4 Reactions@gigimama, waiting is the hardest part of testing. I'm glad that you are at low risk for recurrence. Did your doctor tell you what the nodule might mean? Did you ask for an earlier appointment?

My oncologist said he thinks it looks like scar tissue. It’s small, 5mm. My tsh is now.08, down from 4.1! I was hypo for a few weeks so doc upped my synthroid for one day of the week. That seems to have worked to lower tsh. I am having ultrasound and blood work done every six months. My GP also told me it could be scar tissue. I’m hoping it is just that! 🤞Thanks so much for your reply. Appreciate it!

Thanks so much for your reply! I am a worrier but I’m taking my doc’s word that it looks like scar tissue. I was also told if he thought it was something concerning, he would see me before my appointment in May. Take care 🙂
