Weakness in legs is this part of neuropathy
I have had idiopathic neuropathy for 16 years. I have just now started having a weakness in my lower legs (below knees). They feel like they are not going to support me. Is this part of neuropathy or is it something else?

Go on Amazon and buy the cheapest exercise bike that they have. It should help retain or build up lower leg strength. Mine are messed up due to neuropathy from being pre-diabetic.

1 ReactionYes unfortunately it can be the result of nerve damage. My legs below the knees are weak and sometimes it feels like they’ll give out . If possible it’s good to do exercises to strengthen your muscles. You Tube has exercise videos to help strengthen weak legs caused by neuropathy.
Best wishes.

3 ReactionsI've had that feeling since I began chemotherapy. I feel as anything below my knees is not communicating with my brain resulting in wobbles, lurching esp when getting up after sitting for a while, dizziness, instability, etc
I could describe it as weakness.
Yesterday I was out shopping, some brisk walking, and sometimes it felt as if I were wearing my lower legs, as if they weren't really part of me.
If I walk a long way - miles - my legs give up.
It's not quite the same as being tired, it feels as if the instructions are no longer reaching the lower legs or they don't want to pay attention.
When first I was diagnosed with PN, the doc said that I should exercise the legs, toe stands... squats... etc.... just normal moving around would not be sufficient.
I think he was right.

7 Reactions@v8auto this is me. I feel no connection with my legs in the Earth. I'm getting an EMG this Friday but this has been going on for months I think it's from my disc herniation but I feel like I can't push out the Earth in my feet are very weak like they don't have any muscles
My legs feel weak and burning! I am going to get a Nerve HFX implant. I just want relief from the chronic pain that I have endured!
Hello @nnelson, Welcome to Connect. You are not alone wanting some relief from the awful nerve related pain. You might find it helpful to connect with others discussing the stimulator implants in this related discussion:

How long have you been dealing with the nerve pain?
I’ve had PN for years but without any pain. I do leg presses at the gym and it helps. My biggest issue is balance. My feet don’t tell my brain where they’re at all the time. When I’m walking in public, I’m sure people think I just left a tavern. The bad news is there’ll never be a cure for PN.
Another thing to try. Go to the middle of a room [or your yard] and kneel down. Now see if you can get back onto your feet with NO ASSISTANCE from anything. If not then you need to work on lower leg strength.
@cit10jetjockey My pain is minimal also but my balance is the worst. I use a cane to help when I walk. Now I have what feels like a limp noodle hanging from my knees. I am only feeling comfortable with a walker. I hope this is just a flareup and will go away.
