@lindabreathless hope your Mohs procedure goes well and you heal quickly.
It’s interesting to note that for adults over 60 especially fair-skinned with lifetime sun exposure, risk of skin cancers is already high. The American Academy of Dermatology estimates that 1 in 5 Americans develop skin cancer in their lifetime.
Being on 25 mg of Brinsupri is associated with a small increased risk of developing these skin cancers, which means fewer than 1 additional person per 100.
Just as I go for a dental cleanings twice a year, I go for skin checks twice a year. If something is detected and treated, the surveillance goes up to four times a year and then back down to twice a year if nothing is detected over that year.
I’m definitely keeping a closer eye on my skin these days! As stated above, I’m feeling better on Brinsupri and feels good to know I’m doing something that can potentially slow the progression of this serious lung disease. Time will tell!
