Fosamax/Aldendronate/Bisphosphonate effects - rash, itching and hives
My first DEXA at 50 showed osteoporosis. Was advised to take Vitamin D3 and K. I began HRT. A few years later, I broke my wrist mountain biking and it was a slow, minor fall with major breaking.
Once I healed, I started Risendronate. Had severe bone pain (woke me up once) a few times. Then a few days after my second dose (1x/month), I began having a rash, hives and incredible itching. My doctor had me start taking Zyrtec during the day and Benadryl at night. Switched to alendronate sodium with a 1x/week dose. Still having multiple outbreaks daily with rashes, hives and itching.
Has this happened to anyone else? How did you deal with it? Is there another course of medication that works for you without these side effects?

Has your doc discussed anabolics like tymlos, forteo or another called evenity?
@gravity3 All of those drugs require a bisphosphonate after stopping them. So, if this person is having an allergic reaction to Risendronate or alendronate, which are both bisphosphonates, they are probably not a good idea.

3 ReactionsI've been on Prolia for 3 years and about 6 or so months ago developed a rash but I can't remember exactly when it started so can't be sure if it was the Prolia that caused it. Although, I can't see what else. Went to doc who's referred me to a specialist dermatologist so I'll see what she says. It's listed as a side effect of Prolia however mine isn't itchy at all and not even bothering me other than the aesthetics! Not too bad but blotchy patches on inner thighs and hips but also a little on inside of upper arm. I'm worried it's spreading more so if it is from prolia I may have to go off it to see if it goes away in which case I'll have to switch to something else which I don't really want to as the Prolia hasn't really bothered me up until now. I think drug rashes are more common than what I thought.
