anyone had issues with a tmj splint??

Had a new splint made and the taste is awful, can't wear it, afraid of other health issues from the plastic (never had this problem before).

I also have a tmj splint. I have had it for 3 months and wear it nightly. No, you should not have an awful taste from the plastic. I have a bad taste in my mouth all the time and the splint helps it not to be so bad. Did you soak it with retainer cleaner? If you did and it still tastes strange, I would let the dentist know.
