no, I had a dexa that indicated osteoporosis in my femoral bone. .... -2.8
I tried Boniva and there were no changes in my dexa. I had side effects from the Boniva which I did not choose to endure. I researched and began BHRT and strontium citrate.
I did not tell my endocrinologist that I had stopped the Boniva but begun the strontium citrate.
My next dexa showed my first postive change; my endocrinologist almost skipped into the room. Then I told him what I had done. He sat down did some researching on his computer and called a specialist.
He then told me to continue on and let us see how the next dexas looked. Every dexa was an improvement, eventually he told me that I did not need him any more, but to "change nothing" and be sure to take plenty of calcium in addition to my strontium citrate.
That was years ago.
I am now in "normal" bone territory in that femoral bone area, and normal bone microarchitecture, quality according to the TBS.
A friend of mine who also had side effects from pharma meds and began strontium citrate says that we won the bone lottery.
I believe that she is correct.
She had been fracturing and stopped fracturing after beginning strontium citrate; I am not sure that that is a reaction that everyone who is fracturing will have. Indeed the research is more in the 49% area of reduced fractures for strontium users, but the strontium worked for her.
