Supplements - What helps nerve pain and/or neuropathy?

Posted by newzbug @newzbug, Nov 15, 2019

I was diagnosed earlier this year with "Sensorimotor Peripheral Neuropathy" over my whole body, though I am not yet showing symptoms everywhere. I do have numbness in all my toes, feet, a large section of my upper right thigh, large section of the side of my left calf, occasional ... numbness in my hands in the middle of the night. Anyway, my neurologist did suggest Alpha Lipoic Acid (otc supplement) to help with the neuropathy. She said that although studies suggest people who also have diabetes have had some success with taking this (I don't have diabetes), she said I might get some help from it. So, yep, it's been about 8 months I have been taking 600mg/daily and it seems to have helped lessen my feelings of 'burning feet'. I am going to increase my dosage to 800mg when I finish my current bottle. I use a brand that has no additives (colors, flavors, etc). Brand: Best Vitamins. Though I don't have diabetes, and it may be helpful only because I believe in it, that is something.

My husband periodically gives me massage on my ankles, tops of my feet and calves which seems to offer some help with the emptiness feeling on that lower part of my body. I am doing some reading research on any other supplements which could be of help. I try not to think about neuropathy too much, because I have since been diagnosed with Pulmonary Hypertension and CTEPH. I stick to reputable sites like the Mayo Clinic and PubMed as well as those of us who have personal experiences. Thanks to everyone here for your help. Maybe someday there will be a definitive cure for this wicked torture.

I listened to a Utube video and don't know anything about what was said. Just wondering. Thanks for your reply. I take 60 mgs morning and night for anxiety and depression. Was diagnosed with peripheral neurology recently. Also about statins.

I would like to have info about new information about duloxetine and Peripheral Neuropathy. I have read that it is not good to take it for this. Thanks for any help.

i have very painful neuropathy in my feet so my neurologist prescribed duloxetine for me. I've been taking it for three weeks now. So far I cannot tell that it is working( been taking 3 weeks) but it noted that it can take 4-8 weeks for the medication to start working. I'll update you as time goes by. It does cause diarrhea initially as a side effect, it has gotten better recently.

I am not a physician. I suffer from chronic neuropathy and I went from being completely bedridden to fully functional. I used to become inflamed, stiff, tingling, mirrored electrical pain sensations and burning.
What helped me… I’m approximately 80% recovered:
Micronutrients Test by Spectracell (the test told me EXACTLY what I was deficient of. You cannot heal if the body doesn’t have what it requires to adequately function.
B12 shots/IVS, alpha lipoic acid, glutathione (IV form)
Hyperbaric Oxygen tank
Massage as often as possible (I found out it was the stiffness of the fascia that was causing discomfort. As that improved, the nerve pain and inflammation also improved.
Eliminate sugar and caffeine
Walking and Leg Press

@iamhealed
Good morning iamhealed,
How frequently do you use these micronutrients and are you under the care of your Neurologist of PC? Do you take any other medications and have there been any interactions.
Thanks for your post.

@iamhealed
Congratulations! So impressed and inspired by your efforts in pursuing healing. Thanks for sharing all that you have done and are doing to improve your condition.
Could you please shed some light on the "Micronutrients Test by Spectracell." Is this performed by a primary care doctor or specialist/neurologist? I do use B12 but not shots and alpha lipoic acid and engage in massages and yoga. However, I need to research the other treatments you listed. Eventhough my condition is not as severe as yours was, being bedridden, I am trying to learn as much as possible about peripheral neuropathy and possible remedies.
Appreciate your input. Thanks again.
