Having a colonoscopy next week, can I still take Orgovyx?

Posted by johnny8924 @johnny8924, Dec 30, 2025

Colonoscopy scheduled next week. I've been taking Orgovyx since August 24, 2024 for Gleason 9, no other medications. Primary care physician said maybe stop a day or two before the procedure. Urologist said I don't have to stop taking it. Any advice, suggestions, etc appreciated. Thank you.

I don't think there is a contraindication, but your only answer is ask the Doc doing it, your gastroenterologist.

I can’t think of any reason there’s a conflict. Your urologist is probably correct.

Since it takes many months for the testosterone to come back, stopping for a couple of days would make no difference, your testosterone would really not rise noticeably. In my case when I stopped Orgovyx For a month, my PSA did not go Above < .5. At two months, it went to 6.

Two days won’t do anything, But it won’t make any difference either.

Similarly, I can't envision any contraindications to taking Orgovyx just before a colonoscopy such as the medication creating micro blood in the colon or somehow creating other unwanted changes in the colon.

Not only consult with the physician who prescribed the Orgovyx and the gastroenterologist performing the colonoscopy, but also ask what to do if you miss a few days of the Orgovyx.

I started Orgovyx 12/24/24 and had a colonoscopy 06/16/25. Stopping Orgovyx was never a consideration, just blood thinners or nsaids. All good.

I don't know about Orgovyx, but if you're having it as an adjunct to recent radiation I was told to wait at least a year after radiation before having a colonoscopy.

@scottbeammeup
Both my gasteroenterologist and my RO stated there was no need to delay a colonoscopy after my SBRT.

@toolbelt Interesting. It seems different places tell us different things. I was told that if I needed a colonoscopy I should get one before radiation begins otherwise to wait a year afterwards.

I would think that the biggest issue here would be timing of the bowel prep and its possible effect on the absorption of the medication. I'd recommend checking with the gastroenterologist or whoever is performing the procedure to rule out an interaction with whatever they use as a sedative.

I have to add, that I had two bowel preps within two weeks while on Orgovyx and wasn't told to stop by by radiologists.
