Please let me how morphine worked for you. Need advice

Posted by abbybarnes @abbybarnes, Nov 16, 2025

J have Erythromelalgia- Man on Fire Syndrome. I have been taking 250 mgs of Tramadol for more than 10 years now without numb benefit.

Can you please let me know how morphine works for you and what dose you take and how much you had to beg your doctor to prescribe it? Thank you so much for your advice!

@geezer43 I am 76 with pain from disc herniations and disc degeneration with recent nerve ablation partly helping. I have been taking morphine at night and early morning. During the day I have a regular regime of Tylenol. My husband drives instead of me as my knee joints are wrecked and seize up later waking me in night. I feel shut in and wonder if I drive would any morphine in my bloodstream be risking problems or am I just over cautious.

@ msmcecelia I also use Morphine twice daily and drive. Driving is fine for me. Everyone is individual though - you could do practice drives at quiet times in your neighborhood.
Have a better year in 2026!

I’m surprised that so many people are using morphine for so many years. I was on it for about 4 years due to chronic pain but it stopped working. Even the long acting ceased to be beneficial. I was switched to buprenorphine patch which provides 24/7 pain relief and is changed 1x a week. Info is below.

@jenatsky The long acting is part of a personal program I was able to develop over the years. Mindfulness, yoga, stretching, walking at least twice daily, QiGong, CBD oil, and sometimes THC cannabis. Practicing guided meditation learning to "befriend pain". Foinding the You Tube videos that work for me.
Accepted that I am responsible for my quality of life.
Blessed 2026.
