What is the Imaging Protocol Following Completion of PRRT Therapy?

Posted by markmark007 @markmark007, Dec 27, 2025

Is there an imaging standard for monitoring treatment efficacy?
Was a protocol developed as a result of NETTER clinical trials?
E.G.
1. modality
2. when
3. when repeated
I do understand that Ga and Cu PET scans do not quantify lesion size but are very valuable in revealing tumor radiation uptake (SUV's).
It seems reasonable to certainly include the Ga or Cu PET's
Many thanks,
Mark

@markmark007 My lesion sizes are measured by a Ga PET.

Hi Vinnie, forgive me is PRRT the same as Lutathera?? I was reading about an NIH clinical study for benign tumors that evidently shrinks them in order to have interventional surgery. I have a parapharangeal ganglioma at the skull base since 2012, causing all kinds of problems this year, then all of a sudden a carotid body tumor pops up, now I have another strange lump that I’m suspicious it may be a paraganglioma but n a lymph node or submandibular gland. My oncologist at Mayo treated the carotid body tumor, it grew 1.5 cms, I’m worried it’s going to continue, but surgery could halt the increase in symptoms it’s just risky and I don’t know if anyone that had my particular messed up tumors and don’t know anyone that had had surgery. I don’t think I can do radiation or more of it for at least 6 months I think I read, I finished in October. Have you found anyone that has had surgery or anything else to help? Thank you and bless you and I hope your treatment does what it’s supposed to do for you!🙏🌈✨

Vinnie:
I sincerely appreciate your concise response to my post - THANKS !!!
Follow-up questions- (a) can you comment on the rationale to have the CT scan done after 2 treatments vs. MRI (which were done later)? (b) do you have any bone cancer involvement?
Many thanks again,
Mark

I know after the 2 treatments the team wanted to see if the PRRT treatments were at least stopping the growth. Im not sure why they chose a CT scan over a MRI, but i can ask at my next appointment. I do know that they wanted to compare CT, MRI, and PET scans to the ones i had from the start. Currently i don’t have any bone cancer involvement.. At this time it’s liver and small intestines.. Just a note after my 6 month scan it showed the tumors were still reducing… Hoe this helps..Vinnie

@taracronwall If I'm quoting correctly I believe that Lutathera is a form of PRRT, that is what I had. It is a IV radiation treatment. I personally don't know anyone that has had surgery for removing the tumors, but I've read from many participants on this site who have..Have a blessed day..

@vinnie694 and @taracronwall.

Here is an article I found on the Mayo Clinic website about the terms PRRT and Lutathera.

@hopeful33250 Thanks, and Happy New Year!

Anytime I've gotten a PET scan, it also included an element of CT for sizing and mapping if I recall correctly. So that could be where tumor size is being compared during PET scans.
