I tapered too quickly (over a period of 2-3 months) twice; am now in the middle of my third attempt and it will take two years, at least. I've been on Effexor for more than fifteen years. A too-drastic taper resulted in losing my appetite (and twenty pounds). Food would make me gag, but I did not throw up. My heart goes out to you, as this is obviously a struggle for both of you.
