Arthritis of the Shoulder: Should you ever do pushups or weights?
I have arthritis of the left shoulder. In my younger days (now 80), I lifted weights for many years but when the arthritis became noticeable, an orthopedist told me not to lift anymore nor do any pushups. Now, many years later, I want to retain strength & muscles and am wondering if some light weights (e.g., dumbells) and pushups would be okay to do?

That's a great situation you have!
From my experience that orthopedist is incorrect. I have delayed (hopefully permanently) knee replacement by doing exercises with weights. It strengthens the surrounding muscles and helps with the arthritis pain. I went to a physical therapist to learn which exercises were most beneficial. There's a book entitled "Strong Women Stay Young" that is very encouraging on exercise!

Curcumin is the active ingredient in the spice turmeric. It's more concentrated. Been taking for years with good effect
Thanks for the comments. I am continuing to do weights--They don't hurt when I use them so I think they're okay but I will check to see what PT and physiatrist have to say. I really like to do pushups but there always is a little "grinding" in my shoulders when I do them so I suspect they are a No-No?!
