Good synopsis in helping those having diverticulitis flare ups and understanding what could be going on / what they could be facing. I too chose »elective surgery » with first flare up almost 3 years ago resulting in complicated diverticulitis with a small tear in the colon. That took months to heal and for me to at all feel somewhat better. After several more flare ups and hospitalizations to treat the infection/ inflammation, I had laparoscopic ( robotic) colon resection surgery 4 months ago. I am 70 years old. First few months of recovery was harder than I expected but I am turning the corner and glad I had the procedure. Good luck to you!

@dormor321 Glad you are turning the corner. I don't mean to push surgery but I see a lot of people on a Diverticulitis FB group I am part of saying "I don't want a colostomy bag so I'm never getting surgery". I get it, nobody wants surgery, and that may work out if they have a few mild episodes. But I would hate to see someone take that stance out of fear and not at least educate themselves so they know what to look for in case that "plan" doesn't work out.
