Chronic pain in from osteoarthritis & stenosis

Posted by borwin98 @borwin98, Dec 25, 2025

I'm 96.5 years old and in constant extreme pain. I have chronic pain in my lower back with osteoarthritis, stenosis, and degenerative disc disease. The only thing my Doctor says is to take Tylenol, which has no effect. I've asked for something stronger, but he doesn't believe in pain pills. I have been trying to find another Doctor, but so far no luck. It would be nice to be pain-free for my few final days. Any suggestions?

@borwin98 It is really sad to hear after all the years you have lived that you cannot find some relief for your pain. My only suggestion is to keep looking. Have you looked for a pain management doctor? There must be some near you. A neurologist might be another possibility. They can test you to see what's ailing you. Your present doctor should be able to refer you to someone who can help you. What kind of treatment has your doctor tried?
Whatever the case, I hope you have a restful and blessed Christmas and New Year.

@heisenberg34 Thank you. I will continue to look for a more compassionate Doctor and, in the meantime, beg, borrow, and pay for any oxycodone pills I can get from friends. They help. Thank you, God bless you. Merry Christmas.

Have you tried takin Aleve for your arthritis pain? I have osteoarthritis in my hips, knees, and lower back along with neuropathy in my feet, and the only OTC pain reliever that helps with my arthritis pain is Aleve(sodium naproxine). It shouldn't be taken everyday for long periods of time, but it might help when you're having a really bad day.

Thank you for this advice, but due to my CKD, my Doctor advises against it.
Perhaps on an extra bad day, I should try it. Thank you. 🙂 🙂

If you can find a pain doc try corticosteroid shots in your lower back & try diclofenac &/or dual action Advil (otc) &/or THC gummies and/or journavx (new pain drug) or Flexeril &/or Elavil &/or low dose Tramadol. All these have helped me at various stages of PN & low back pain (stenosis). I’m so sorry that at this stage in your life no doc will help you; you should not have to be in constant pain. I hope you can find a new pain doc & get some help.

@sue4 Thank you so very much, Sue. You have given me many options to look into, which I appreciate.
If I'm unable to get any pain relief, I will have to consider
MAID, but only as a last resort.
Have a great New Year.

@borwin98 You are quite welcome. Best to you! I forgot to mention, if you are in a state that allows medical marijuana, I take a 10mg THC gummie every night for sleep (puts me right out)!

@sue4 Hi Sue. I'm in Canada; we have those stores. I'll ask if they have that. Lack of sleep due to pain is another problem that I face. I only dream of a good night's sleep, so today I'll drop in to this corner store.
Thank you so much, Sue. I'll let you know if it works. I sincerely thank you for taking the time to help me.
Have a happy New Year, and God bless you.
