@judeann20 thank you so much for your post. You nailed it! We are not science projects, and our pain concerns are valid. How hard would it be to give a sedative, or sedation similar to drugs used in colonoscopies?
Think how many lives could be saved if women and men were not afraid of biopsies, prostate, breast, uterine, and others. No one likes pain, and being afraid before procedures is nothing to discount. People should not be made to feel smaller than, be made to feel ashamed, or criticized because of their valid fears.

@lizziew As a man with breast cancer, I had two different experiences with biopsy.
The first provider I went to, numbed my chest to perform the biopsy. I learned how weak I really am, hate needles. The sight of the needle made me queasy. I asked to be blindfolded and when I felt even the slightest pain, my heart rate sky rocketed, procedure had to stop. Thankfully, a nurse grabbed my hand and we got through it.

My 2nd experience with a biopsy, at Mayo was much different. I met the doctor before the procedure, told her what I experienced. This time, they played music, had 3 nurses in the room, that suggested talking while I was blindfolded. Every 20-30 sec, they asked how I was doing.

Needles, blood and pain don’t work for me, I am extra paranoid and try to avoid or make sure staff are aware.
