I just read your question; I haven’t looked at this thread for a long time. Hope your mom got better and you’re still out there.
I wasn’t having high fevers, just 99-something and decided to just ignore it and go on with my normal activities. I gradually got back to normal.
From looking at these posts, maybe some people feel too sick to ignore it; but for those who can, try paying less attention to it and going about your business as much as possible.
My uneducated guess is that this may be something like the chicken pox virus that stays in your system once you have it, and can come out later(think shingles)under stress.
I’m not medically trained, so these are just personal opinions.
I would suggest people try strengthening their immune system with a high quality probiotic. The majority of the immune system is in the gut.

My temp is usually well below "normal," but often rises to low grade. The variation often makes me feel awful. I just don't seem to be able to regulate my temperature post-covid
