My first flare up I went to ER not knowing what the pain was from. I had no blood work, an x-ray and was sent home saying I just needed to use the bathroom. So the next two times it happened to me, I worked through the pain on my own figuring I was just going to be sent home. The fourth time, it was different the bloating, distended belly that I couldn’t hold in I knew something wasn’t right. I had a tear, this time I went to ER they drew blood and an immediate CT scan. A doctor came to see me and said I had to be admitted for at least 2 days. I was floored! Then talking to me as if I knew what was going on. I am so confused as to why this is happening to me. My mom has had these problems. I have been “constipated” all my life, which I was just told that is my normal bowel movement and not to worry about it! Upon discharge I was told by my group of physicians I can eat whatever I want because there is no link to food. I am now having my 5th flare up. (Like the first 3) severe pain radiating across my abdomen where I can’t even talk, that eventually goes away after 10-20 min. Do I need an antibiotic? What should I avoiding? I just don’t know why. Mine has been consistent with every 6 months! I need help, I need answers.

@bre19 Sorry you are going through this. The only time you should need antibiotics is if your blood work shows high white blood count. Also, you would need an anti-inflammation medicine if your blood work showed that marker high too.

@bre19 I have diverticulitis . Despite surgery , I had 10” of colon removed . The rest of the colon can still suffer with “the divers”. That is what I call it . I keep mine in check with diet . I do not consume nuts or any type of seeds . These things get into the pockets of “ divers” and cause infection . That causes stomach pain and sometimes fever. If I happen to feel a sore tummy, I start drinking large amounts of water . It helps me. Even corn chips can bother me . They are made with hard ground corn . It can cause problems as some of it does not soften . I don’t eat corn at all anymore . Blessed Be all of you . We do all have our demons . I try to be positive …. Crystalena
