I agree with @jeffmarc that many things can cause a rise in PSA, as well as that a single increase in PSA doesn’t make a trend.

However….(there’s always a “however”)….a slightly elevated PSA does warrant attention, because not unlike a “check engine” light in a car; it indicates that something may be wrong, and further checks should be made “under the hood.”

Might be as simple as stress after surgery, might be a UTI; might be prostatitis; might be BPH; might be more serious, such as prostate cancer. Just need to have further checks. No need to panic, or rush to a quick treatment decision, or get overly concerned.

If it were me, at my next Total PSA test I would have them also test my “Free PSA” (just to start tracking other potentially relevant markers).

@brianjarvis thank you, sir. Will do. I freaked out with that .8 to 4.3 jump with no symptoms other than recent double hernia surgery.

@brianjarvis Thank you. Was retested 1 week later and it dropped to 3.3 from 4.3 and free PSA ratio was 25.5%. Doc recommend retesting in 6-8 weeks. Hoping it was just spike from recent hernia surgery.
